The wine business has all of the same “business” challenges as any other industry. In any given year, we deal with the vagaries of agricultural, equipment and labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, governmental restrictions, tax audits…
But all of these infrastructural realities only serve to make our true mission — taking care of people — that much more powerful and compelling work. Every now and then we get to experience the little surprises, the little eruptions of magic that come with sharing something we’ve made with people who are open to the emotional connections that great wine helps to forge and strengthen.
A couple days ago, one of our dear friends, Dr. Jack Mills, a Maxillofacial surgeon who’s been practicing in Livermore since 1968, came by our tasting room after service with chips, crème fraiche, caviar and a 1995 Grand Dame Champagne to share with the team. His unexpected act of kindness and generosity just reinforced our core idea that lifting the cares of the day off someone’s shoulders and making them feel a part of a larger group of likeminded people, if only for a few moments, is fundamentally important work.
