I have been making wine and writing about what the act of making it means for more than a quarter-century. Wine Saves Lives! explores how we can form connections with people by focusing on the esthetic and emotional sides of wine and winegrowing.

Wine Saves Lives! is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

In 2021 I published my first book and realized through that process that the goals of my youth (and the focus of my undergrad and graduate education) had not been finally and fully buried under the exigencies of “real life.”  I was fortunate to discover that one can aspire to more than one professional pursuit and that they can add meaning and depth to each other.

Winegrowing and writing are the same activity if one looks at them, not for what they produce, but for what they describe: ways of conveying meaning and revealing deeper levels of Beauty. Most of the writing (long-form essays and interviews and the like), podcasts, and videos here will try to communicate what makes this life of winegrowing so beguiling and bottomless.

I subscribe to the notion that writing unread, and video unwatched, are like the tree falling in an unpeopled forest. Your involvement in Wine Saves Lives! will make it a much more meaningful, immediate, and interesting place to share.

Every month, I will post for free subscribers. But for those who would like deeper and more varied content and who would – frankly – like to help a writer make a living, paid subscriptions of $7 a month or $77 per year will be traded for bi-weekly multi-media content.
